  7. Then in 1563 there was a new act. It was made a felony to invoke evil spirits and to — if they were invoked to cause the death of another, then execution was the punishment. Otherwise witches were to be imprisoned or put in the pillory and face death only for a second

  8. And remember the 1967 Fairness Doctrine campaign that itself resulted in a significant

    in smoking. In California, the media campaign reduced sales of cigarettes by 232 million packs in only a two-year period.
  9. And by the end of that decade, there were thousands of articles testing market efficiency using the CRSP tape. And, in particular in 1969, Eugene Fama wrote one of the most
    cited
    articles in the history of finance.
  10. Well, that’s how the disease afflicted the human body. What I want to do next time, now that we understand this terrible disease and the suffering it caused, is to deal with its
    impact
    historically, its effect on society, and to look at the development of a public health strategy, which was to be vaccination.
  11. And the focus is on a certain rural part of India and on sales to people who are either in business on a very small
    scale
    , entrepreneurs of some kind, or householders in an area that is off the electric grid.

Today I want to pick up on the theme I ended the last lecture with, and that is that black Americans, talking heading – talking about the nineteen-teens, heading into – into World War I, we’re now in the wake of the challenges of that era, and the domestic disappointments of World War I, when soldiers came home and some were lynched, that black Americans were going to claim their civil
    rights
    instead of wait patiently for them.
